Meeting guests at the airport really isn’t that tricky, especially when they have their bike bags with them. They were just a little bit conspicuous as they tackled the tight barriers. When loaded up, we headed back to the farm, planning the weeks mountain biking. It was always going to be a week of avoiding the rain showers that were crossing Europe. Everything fell into place nicely though; on the couple of times it rained we stopped in little mountain restaurants for a cheeky beer; when it was sunny we went out to ride.

From the moment we did our practice route, it was clear that we’d be able to take on the whole on the mountain, fitness and technical skills were right up there and it was an absolute pleasure to show Josh and Dave around our little part of the Tirol. tight singletrack

The days were split between the Skiwelt and the Wilder Kaiser. Each offering different terrain from rooty to flowing. With the final day over at the bike park in Leogang for a totally new experience for Josh and Dave. The bikes that they brought over (a Commencal and a Santa Cruz) handled the terrain for the whole week, a couple of repairs were sorted out on trail and in the workshop at the end of the day. Normal trail encounters, for example, knocked rear mech and a small problem with the gear cabling.

For the guys, they mentioned that some of the rooty sections were a real challenge and we all took a tumble or two throughout the week, as we pushed ourselves. the approach

The week was quite quiet in the villages but we managed to find a concert at the castle in the town of Kufstein which was a change for one afternoon. Not much will be mentioned about the Lake Alight Festival which was a complete washout resembling a wet charity fête in rural Devon (no offense to any Devonians out there). Beer, schnapps and a few games at the farm helped sort this out though!

As a final note, we’d like to congratulate Josh and Dave and their team ‘Ayee Gringo’ at the Original Source Mountain Mayhem 2009 with their win in the Tens category. I knew they were climbing these alpine mountains with too much gusto!
