- midsummers night -
It isn’t every day that you are able to look out of the window and see the whole of the skyline lit up with burning fires. Not forest fires, just the local farmers climbing the 2000m high mountains behind the farm. Sonneck, Tuxeck and Treffauer. Not only that but half way down the mountain a huge cross was lit with the initials J.B – Junge Bauer or Young Farmers.
This beautiful view is perfect when you sit outside with your friends enjoying a quiet beer and a b-b-q. A great way to enjoy the longest day of the year.
Here are some vaguely interesting facts about the longest day of the year….
The solstice comes from the Latin “sol” (sun) and “sistit” (stands still) because for several days before and after the solstice, the sun appears to hover still in the sky.
Midsummer is also been called “St. John’s Feast,” in honour of the birthday of John the Baptist.
