- harvest celebration -

The traditional barbequeFestivals, festivals, festivals and if there isn’t one available the Austrians are world class leaders at finding an excuse for a celebration. It is hard work on the farm and rightly so it was time to celebrate, the occasion was the end of the first harvest. If the weather behaves nicely, there should be time for three harvests each year. The aim is to gather in as much hay as possible to feed the cows through the cold winter months.

An Austria b-b-q or ‘Grill’ isn’t that much different from an English one. The main different though is that the meat is often straight from our farm. Which is great as the farm is an organic one and it has to be said the beef tastes fantastic. We used one of those catering b-b-q’s, it cooked beautiful juicy meat but it got be thinking, is a coal or wood b-b-q better? What do people prefer, or are there any tricks to get the best flavour from this large metallic box? Comments appreciated. Don’t worry we already have a traditional b-b-q which we’ll be using all the time as well!
