- food for mountain bikers -

Ellmau, A mountain bikers havenMountain biking demands huge amounts of energy. Therefore, generally speaking, when mountain bikers eat they like to eat big.

We are big fans of good food at a fair price. Keep your eyes open as we’ll be posting a number of reviews of our favourite restaurants and mountain huts.

So lets start off with the ‘Alm’ in Ellmau. Firstly I should say we are biased, as we had our wedding reception here. Serving 150+ guests, the waiters were extremely efficient but did look a bit stern at times! This is the only slightly negative thing I have to say about the ‘Alm’.

The place is fantastic, typically traditional. Cosy but loads of room. Both in the summer and the winter the terrace open and has been recently redecorated. In summer the balconies are covered in flowers. All this with an impressive backdrop of the Wilder Kaiser mountain range.

Most importantly, the food. Portions are more than generous and the menu is a little larger than normal. Simply put, I’ve been there over 50 times and have never been disappointed with a meal.

Personally, I’d recommend the ‘Kaese spaetzle’, a large plate of local cheese pasta (looks a bit like small NikNaks). Tasty, filling and at a good price.

Please tell us about your experiences of the ‘Alm’….
