- cycling uphill for a rest! -
In Austria the downhill trails can be steep and demanding. Your arms will take a lot of the punishment and instead of trying to take the whole 1000m plus descent in one go, mixing in a little climbing as well can be surprisingly nice.
Again three cable cars aided in the climbs and we managed to do over 10,000 feet of descents (it sounds more impressive when you mention it in feet!). You will quickly improve your skills on the downhills, such things as balancing, pedal position, small drops etc. Then take in a bit of time to look around when doing the climbing and cycling in the valley.
Had a nice chat with an elderly man I met on the trails who was picking blueberries, he was all smiles and very interested about why this Englishman had decided to live in Austria. It was easy enough to explain when I mentioned that my wife is Austrian and it was a choice between Halifax and Ellmau. (no offence to Halifax – it has some great mountain biking!)
