- building bridges – part II -
Want to read this series in order? Here is part I.
Well it shows that if you put your mind to something, things start to happen. Martin (Manus’s father) and I went round to our neighbours farm. He owns most of the wood that we want to build the bridge in. The ‘meeting’, which consisted of standing outside their farm for ten minutes chatting about cows and milk prices couldn’t have gone better. The young farmer had absolutely no problems with us building the bridge.
Next Martin, Stephan (my brother-in-law) and I headed over to the stream. Armed with a long tape measure and my extensive knowledge of bridge building!! Surely it is just a case of measuring the divide – which is approximately 6-7 metres and 2 metres high. Then laying some long pieces of wood and finally nailing in some cross pieces. If the banks weren’t a couple of meters high then I would just ask the guests to cycle across or carry their bikes. Maybe if we get smart, we can add a hand rail!
Really looking forward to seeing how this project pans out. Not only will our holiday guests have easier access to the other side of the stream. Holiday guests will also be able to cross the bridge instead of the main road in order to go to the restaurants in Auwald.
Hopefully the next update will be showing images of a fully functioning bridge but in the meantime if anyone out there has any knowledge at all in this area, please drop us a comment….
